Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) has welcomed the announcement of a £1 billion investment into the UK’s offshore wind supply chain, unveiled on June 17, 2025, by the UK Government and Great British Energy, in collaboration with The Crown Estate.
The funding package aims to accelerate offshore wind development and support British manufacturing, infrastructure, and innovation. It includes:
-
£300 million from Great British Energy to drive private investment in industrial regions,
-
£400 million from The Crown Estate for supply chain and port upgrades,
-
£300 million in matched industry funding via the Industrial Growth Plan.
In addition, the government’s Clean Industry Bonus will provide up to £544 million to encourage cleaner supply chain practices and regional benefits across Scotland, North-East England, and East Anglia. Industry estimates suggest the funding could support up to 14,000 jobs and attract £9 billion in private investment over four years.
Jean Morrison, MBE, Chairperson of AREG, highlighted the regional benefits: “This investment brings a major opportunity for Aberdeen and surrounding areas to harness our deep energy expertise and secure a leading role in delivering the UK’s clean energy ambitions.”
AREG has over 260 member organisations and is committed to ensuring local businesses benefit from the transition through skills development, job creation, and supply chain strengthening.
