Deep Wind Offshore and Swedish power distribution company Ellevio have announced a strategic partnership to integrate offshore wind energy into Sweden's power grid. This collaboration aims to innovate onshore and offshore grid models and develop solutions to accelerate climate adaptation for industrial customers. The primary project under this partnership is the Olof Skötkonung offshore wind farm, located in the Gulf of Bothnia.
The Olof Skötkonung project, which Deep Wind Offshore applied to build last year, is set to be a significant contributor to Sweden's energy transition. Planned for the northeast of Gävleborg and Uppsala counties, the wind farm will feature up to 70 turbines with a combined annual production capacity of 7.5 terawatt-hours (TWh). This project is expected to play a crucial role in meeting Sweden’s renewable energy targets starting in the early 2030s.
Knut Vassbotn, CEO of Deep Wind Offshore, emphasized the importance of the partnership with Ellevio, highlighting that it will expedite the project's delivery. He noted that securing permits will enable rapid commencement of operations, thereby enhancing Sweden's renewable energy infrastructure and contributing to the global fight against climate change.
