By capturing infrared images, these cameras can identify hot spots, indicating areas that may require repairs such as loose connections or corrosion. The inspections also involved checking transformers and other electrical equipment along power lines to ensure efficient performance during the expected increase in electricity demand.
Additionally, FirstEnergy's Ohio electric companies have invested millions of dollars to trim trees along power lines, spanning nearly 10,000 miles, to mitigate tree-related outages. Helicopter patrols have also been conducted to inspect transmission lines and address any potential reliability issues promptly.
