GE Grid Solutions has secured a contract with Larsen & Toubro to supply three 380 kV gas-insulated substations (GIS) for the world's largest green hydrogen plant in Saudi Arabia.
The plant, located in the planned smart city of Neom, aims to produce carbon-free hydrogen using wind and solar power, with a target of 600 tonnes per day by 2026. GE's GIS design and breaker configuration will ensure a reliable and uninterrupted power supply for the hydrogen plant, as well as the wind and photovoltaic plants that will generate captive energy. The project is part of Saudi Arabia's National Renewable Energy Program and aligns with the country's strategic vision for 2030.
Philippe Piron, President and CEO of GE Grid Solutions, expressed pride in being part of the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project, emphasizing GE's commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia's renewable energy goals. GE will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, and installation of the GIS equipment, manufactured in France. Larsen & Toubro, the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the power elements package, will also construct the substations and necessary grid infrastructure. This collaboration builds on the successful partnership between GE Grid Solutions and Larsen & Toubro, which have previously worked together on transmission and distribution projects in Saudi Arabia.
