Ingeteam has been selected to supply technology for a significant 133 MW green hydrogen production project at BP’s Lingen refinery in northwest Germany. The initiative, which aims to produce 11,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, will be powered by electricity from an offshore wind power purchase agreement.
The project will replace the existing grey hydrogen produced by methane reforming with low-carbon hydrogen, aligning with BP's strategy to integrate renewable energy and reduce its carbon footprint.
Ingeteam will provide 20 units of its advanced technology, featuring 40 INGECON H2 E6000 rectifiers, designed to efficiently convert electricity into green hydrogen. This equipment, known for its high current density and efficiency, is crucial for the refinery’s electrolyzers.
The Lingen project highlights Ingeteam’s growing role in the green hydrogen sector, adding to its portfolio of large-capacity projects globally. The refinery's commitment to renewable hydrogen, which includes previous innovations such as the world’s first renewable hydrogen test in 2018, underscores its ongoing efforts to adopt less carbon-intensive production methods.
This project marks a milestone for both Ingeteam and the green hydrogen industry, reflecting a broader trend towards large-scale industrial hydrogen applications that balance cost, performance, and sustainability.
