Meta has signed two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with U.S. utility and power generation company AES, securing 650 megawatts (MW) of solar energy in Texas and Kansas. The energy will be supplied to the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), a regional transmission organization covering 14 central U.S. states.
The solar projects, though undisclosed in detail, will support Meta’s growing network of data centers in the region, furthering its goal to operate fully on renewable energy. The agreements underscore Meta’s commitment to expanding its clean energy portfolio as data center demand rises.
This deal builds on a series of renewable energy initiatives by Meta, which recently signed agreements with RWE and Sunraycer Renewables for both power and environmental attributes. It also follows AES’s continued activity in the tech sector, having secured similar PPAs with Microsoft earlier this year.
The new contracts with AES will contribute to new solar capacity being added to the SPP grid, helping meet Meta’s 100% renewable energy target while supporting broader decarbonization in the region.
