China's Mingyang Smart Energy has recently introduced the world's most extensive offshore wind turbine, the MySE 18.X-20MW, marking a significant leap in sustainable energy technology. Boasting the largest capacity and rotor diameter globally, this cutting-edge turbine is designed to optimize the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE) and ensure long-term efficiency. The MySE 18.X-20MW has evolved from Mingyang's previous platforms, featuring a modular and lightweight design, high efficiency, and enhanced reliability.
Engineered for deployment in medium to high wind-speed regions, the MySE 18.X-20MW is particularly well-suited for typhoon-prone sites. Equipped with active anti-typhoon technology capable of withstanding Category 17 typhoons (56.1-61.2 m/s), it sets a new standard for resilience in extreme weather conditions. With flexible power ratings ranging from 18.X to 20 MW and rotor diameters spanning 853-958 feet (260-292 meters), the turbine covers a swept area equivalent to nine soccer fields.
Mingyang claims that the MySE 18.X-20MW, positioned in Eastern Guangdong, has an impressive annual generation capacity of 80 million kWh. This colossal turbine can power an astonishing 96,000 households while significantly reducing emissions by 66,000 tonnes. Notably, this unveiling follows Mingyang's previous achievement in July when it brought online the world's then-largest offshore wind turbine, the MySE 16-260.
