Global peaking-power solutions provider PROENERGY, headquartered in Sedalia, Missouri, has announced the release of its groundbreaking 48-MW aeroderivative gas turbine, the PE6000. Unveiled during the company's annual user conference in Houston, Texas, the turbine is designed to swiftly respond to gaps in power supply and demand, offering a rapid and reliable solution.
The PE6000 model is a result of a unique collaboration between PROENERGY and a major European utility. It combines an overhauled engine core from a GE aircraft engine commonly found in Boeing 747s with aeroderivative parts, creating a powerful and efficient peaking power solution. Rob Andrews, PROENERGY's Senior Vice President of Operations, emphasized the company's in-house engine and repair expertise as a crucial factor in the success of the PE6000 program.
Aeroderivative gas turbines, known for their quick start capabilities and high reliability, are often employed for peaking power, complementing the intermittency of renewable energy sources. PROENERGY's investment of seven years and $115 million in research and development has resulted in the creation of two PE6000 turbines, with one already operational at a WattBridge generating facility in Houston.
President and CEO Jeff Canon highlighted PROENERGY's commitment to delivering low-cost, dispatchable generation through innovative solutions. The PE6000 adds to the company's portfolio, providing plant owners with another option for meeting the dynamic power needs of today's world.
