Omicron, a leading provider of innovative testing and diagnostic solutions for electrical power systems, has joined forces with other stakeholders in Project INZELL.
This research initiative, launched in 2020 and scheduled to run until the end of 2023, centers around an industrial cell operated by the Max Bögl Group in Sengenthal, Germany. The industrial cell acts as a testing ground for examining the potential of grid support and system services provided by an island grid capable of integrating renewable energy sources. With the suppression of large-scale power plants, ensuring a highly reliable power supply has become increasingly critical for industrial plants that rely on cost-sensitive manufacturing processes. By leveraging their own generation facilities and advanced grid management technologies, these plants can minimize their dependence on the public power grid and mitigate the risks of power outages and voltage dips, ultimately reducing production downtime and costs.
The research project aims to address unresolved challenges related to the optimal interaction of different energy generation plants, storage facilities, and load management systems. It also explores the use of automated plant deployment and a grid manager, enabling efficient provision of system services and grid support through the Max Bögl industrial cell. Through collaborations like Project INZELL, Omicron and its partners are working towards a more stable, resilient, and cost-effective energy landscape, supporting the ongoing energy transition efforts.
