Doosan Enerbility has signed an Early Works Agreement with Siemens Gamesa to establish a production facility for 14 MW offshore wind turbine nacelles in Changwon, South Korea. The agreement, signed on March 11, marks a significant step in localizing offshore wind manufacturing in the country.
Under the deal, Doosan Enerbility will design and construct the factory, while Siemens Gamesa will provide technology transfer, workforce training, and operational support to enhance Doosan’s nacelle assembly capabilities.
“Through the synergy of the cooperation between the two companies, we will contribute to the revitalization of the domestic offshore wind power ecosystem and the expansion of carbon-free energy,” said Son Seung-woo, Head of Power Service BG at Doosan Enerbility.
“Our collaboration with Doosan Enerbility has been instrumental in securing a healthy project pipeline in Korea. Doosan has been a strong and reliable partner for us as we enter the Korean offshore wind market,” stated Falk Mehdorn, Head of Nacelles at Siemens Gamesa.
The partnership builds on an MoU signed in June 2022, followed by a binding framework agreement in February 2023. Siemens Gamesa has already been selected to supply turbines for projects including Anma Offshore Wind’s 532 MW wind farm and the Bandibuli offshore wind project developed by Equinor.
