Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured major contracts to modernize and expand high-voltage electricity grids in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Through its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business, the company will implement advanced High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) links and Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) to enhance regional grid resilience and support renewable energy integration.
In Saudi Arabia, L&T will deliver ±500kV HVDC transmission links, improving power exchange and grid reliability across the kingdom. The company has also secured contracts for two 380kV overhead transmission lines and a 380kV GIS, pivotal for supporting the growing share of renewable energy.
In Abu Dhabi, L&T will construct two 400kV GIS, featuring cutting-edge components such as Series Current Limiting Reactors and Auto Transformers. These upgrades will increase the power transfer capacity of Abu Dhabi's grid to meet rising demand.
T. Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director and Senior Executive Vice President at L&T, stated, “The modernization of transmission systems is crucial for building a secure, resilient grid that accommodates the growing renewable energy market.”
These contracts underscore L&T’s leadership in high-voltage grid projects, furthering the Middle East's transition towards a more sustainable energy future.
