Weidmann Electrical Technology has officially begun the $44 million expansion of its Saint Johnsbury plant. The project will include the construction of a new warehouse, scheduled to start in December, and renovations to existing buildings. The expansion is expected to be completed by next year.
The investment, supported by $1.7 million from the State of Vermont over the next several years, will help create 60 to 70 new jobs. Carol Martin, vice president of finance, expressed excitement about the growth, citing increased customer demand as a driving factor.
Kevin Biggie, director of technology and innovation, highlighted the variety of positions that will be available, ranging from production roles to engineering jobs. The company is also committed to encouraging younger generations to join the workforce.
The expansion is part of Weidmann's efforts to meet growing demand for its transformer insulation and components, which power major cities across the country.
