MOROCCO — GE’s Grid Solutions has been awarded a contract to build two substations in the south of the country that will connect the Boujdour wind farm to the national grid.
The Boujdour site is part of an 850 MW integrated wind power project on different sites. The 300 MW wind farm project, owned and developed by the Moroccan public utility ONEE and other private partners, is expected to provide clean power to around 200,000 Moroccan households.
The manufacturer will provide technology for two substations, one with a 400 kV capacity and another one with a 225 kV capacity.
The two substations will channel power from the Boujdour wind farm and other renewable energy projects to neighboring communities, as well as connect it to the national grid of Morocco.
To fully support the project, the manufacturer will participate in the planning, design, and execution of the planned facilities utilizing grid code studies, design, compensation solutions, gas-insulated and air-insulated switchgear, power transformers and reactors, and full automation solutions.
The project is part of Morocco’s renewable energy program, aiming to install about 10 GW of renewable additional capacity by 2030, which is more than 52% of the current Moroccan installed capacity.
